Advent 2020: Come Lord, Connect Us
We soon enter into our beloved Advent season of longing, but due to the global pandemic, strife in our nation, and struggles in our personal lives, our longing is more urgent than ever. We long for human community. We long for holiday gatherings. We long for hugs. We long for security. We long for a reunion of God’s people. We long for God’s Good News to overflow into our desperate, divided, and despairing world.
The one we are waiting for promises He will, ultimately, connect us back together. In John 17:23, Jesus says, “I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.” Jesus will connect all people of every nation at the tree of life, which grows countless leaves for the healing of all people (Revelation 22:1-2)
As we make our way through the Sundays of Advent, we’ll explore the theme, ‘Come Lord, Connect Us.’ Each week’s readings will open up an invitation to make this theme real in our lives as followers of Jesus. Watch, wait, and listen for how the Lord is working to connect us as we do our best to make our way through this time of trial. The Holy Spirit’s power is all about connection: That power is simultaneously in the future, and already present.
