God’s Work, Our Hands… An Update from the Slindes

October Updates from Nurse Chris of Hephatha

  • Benedict Center Sisters Ministry to street workers:

The Benedict Center team said that they could use clean and gently used winter coats for women, so if you have warm women’s coats to donate, we can make any donated items available to them.

  • Strong Baby Sanctuary:

Ongoing need for diapers, wipes and gently used baby items to our moms. Thank you for all of the items you have given to us. It has really helped to support our families and the Strong Baby Sanctuary has grown stronger with new families joining us each month. We have 3 new families that have joined within the last month. We just had a new baby born in October and we have 6 more pregnant moms. It is wonderful to be able to help them with baby supplies and necessities.– Any further help with baby items will strengthen our SBS ministry and strengthen our families.

  • Winter ministry in general:

With the cold weather we can use socks, gloves, mittens, hats, underwear.–All sizes.

We need snack items for our Tuesday Praise families. We will be giving these out monthly.  It is routine for us, during non COVID times to give out weekly snack bags.  We would like to provide some sort of goodie bag monthly to them during COVID.

  • Blankets and quilts:

Thank you for the baby blankets and quilts. The quilts have gone to our 80 and 90 year olds. We had a zoom Work Ministry session last weekend in which we included our elders. We had a prior delivery of Hephatha Loves You t-shirts, masks and a quilt to each elder. They really appreciated the gifts and we appreciate your help to make those good and meaningful gifts.

  • Confirmation:

Confirmation is starting this coming Monday and Pastor has been doing much outreach to our confirmation students and the adults who support this ministry. We hope to be able to have around 20 youth and 5 supporting adults participating in confirmation.

If there is opportunity to find prayer cards, crosses or other items that could deepen our young people’s faith, we would welcome that.

We hope you have taken the opportunity to read the appreciation letter from Pastor Mary Martha in October and the invitation to join the Zoom Partnership Celebration on November 7. It is good to be able to celebrate together even from a distance. For more information about Hephatha on all their ministries, go to www.hephatha100.com

This update is to let you know OSLC current ministries and needs. Please pick and choose to help in areas that are do-able for you. The cleaning supplies and winter collections (sox, etc) will continue all winter. You can put them in the bin or on the table in the West entry.

In October we made deliveries of God’sWork Our Hands donations to Friends in West Bend, Casa Maria Women’s Shelter and McCannon Brown Homeless Shelter in Milwaukee. Deliveries to Family Promise, Karl’s Place and Casa Guadalupe in West Bend will be made next week.

The results of your generous donations will be available soon. Any questions or concerns, contact Nancy at dandnslinde@aol.com or 262-339-0030.
